For the beginner, classes follow the same basic format. They begin with formal bowing in ceremonies, proceed to warm ups, then to kihon (basics), and to kihon ido (basic movement). The later part of the class is devoted to learning kata, kumite, or anything that pops into Sensei's (Instructor's) head. Class ends with cool downs and bowing out ceremonies. One can expect to spend a great deal of time practicing basics before being allowed to participate in jiyu-kumite (free sparring). It usually takes four to six years of steady training to achieve the rank of Shodan (Black Belt).

If you are interested in training with us, please drop in to any class to get acquainted and try it out free of charge. We are a friendly bunch and we look forward to training with you.
